WHY JOURNALISTS WERE BARRED FROM PRESIDENT
BROTHER’S WEDDING
Many are still baffled on what
could have instigated the attitude of our first Lady, Her Excellency, Dame Patience
Goodluck Jonathan towards the media at the talk of the town wedding of her
brother in-law and the real motive behind it. It’s still a thing of concern
that the first lady who had on several occasions through her pals like Sen.
Florence Ita-Giwa, Mr. Ben Bruce and even Hajia Bola Shagaya invited
journalists for one reason or the other suddenly treated them in such an
embarrassing manner. Those who were lucky to attend the wedding of President
Goodluck Jonathan’s younger brother, Azibabaniolo Jonathan which took place on
the 5th of November 2011 at the Peace Park, Yenagoa, Bayelsa
would attest to the fact that journalists were shabbily treated as they were
bluntly refused entry into the venue. The Security operatives claimed there was
a standing order from the first lady not to allow journalists into the venue.
Insiders at the wedding have however tried to solve the mystery behind our dear
Dame’s attitude. According to a source who was at the wedding, “the first lady
practically presided over the wedding as the mother of the day and might have refused
you journalists entry into the reception venue because of the fear of wrongly
quoting her or finding faults in her spoken English which is not out rightly
poor as you guys sometimes enlarge it” , the source said. For whatever reason
that made madam treated the media the way they did, we wish the newest couple a
peaceful union and wish the first lady would try and learn how to sometimes
swallow bitter pills, they only make us a better person. That
notwithstanding, we think with the motive behind it, the first lady had a field
day and must have been at liberty to shoot ‘guns’ the way she always like it.
