The combined team of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency-NDLEA, United States Drug Enforcement Agency-USDEA, the DSS, and Interpol last night stormed the Victoria Island, Lagos home of one of Nigeria’s Senators-Elect, Prince Kashamu Buruji just 5 days to his inauguration.
The operation, National Enquirer
gathered was so carefully orchestrated that, the strong man of Ogun politics,
Prince Buruji has been under close watch by security agents for a while now. According
to sources, the need to effect Prince Kashamu Buruji’s arrest on time was stemmed
from his election to the upper chamber of the National Assembly where it is
believed he’ll be covered by the immunity clause.
It was like a war as we gathered
the NDLEA, USDEA and co had to force their ways in by vandalising a portion of
his residence after trying effortlessly to gain entrance and before they could
penetrate the building, the strong man had found his way to an unknown
destination believed to be a dungeon inside the house.
The stalwartly built multimillionaire
businessman has been allegedly enmeshed in a drug related controversy for years
and his closeness to the powers that be, most especially the out-going
president has been a source of protection until recently.
Inside sources confided in this
magazine that, the combined team of operatives that eventually stormed his
house last night relied on the Interpol who have been trailing the man believed
to be security conscious himself, they were said to have laid a siege weeks ago
in his Ijebu Igbo residence and decided not to strike simply because Prince
Buruji is a man of the people and his arrest might be resisted in his home town
owing to his large heart and how much he has touched the lives of his people.
Though, he was said to have had
premonition of the arrest as a source informed us that, Prince Buruji knew the
kind of toes he has stepped on while playing the dirty game of politics. And when
it finally dawned on him that, there’s no hiding place, more so, after the
tsunami that ousted his godfather-President Jonathan, the Ijebu high Chief
began to wear a humble toga but it was rather too late.
Described as very receptive,
helpful and nice to a fault with a large heart for service to humanity, the controversial
political juggernaut advanced to pouring oil on troubled water by offering
olive leaves for frayed nerves. One of these reconciliatory moves was his
public statement where he openly declared that the APC generalissimo, Senator
Bola Ahmed Tinubu is his political mentor.
We gathered authoritatively that,
had that plan to hoodwink Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu had worked, the next thing
would have been for Prince Kashamu to lobby for a visit and offer to decamp to
the APC and from where the ultimate arrangement to appease his biggest “enemy”
will be mapped out.
And as if that’s not enough, we
have it on good authority of Prince Kashamu’s clandestine move to meet with the
ex-president with whom he has been having a running battle but all these are
cry after death, as at that material time, it was far beyond what even his political
godfather could handle, his fate has been left for the international authority
to decide.
The process of his extradition to
the US, if arrested begins immediately where he’s expected to face an alleged
involvement in drugs related offense but as at press time, the security agents
are still strutting out in his residence.
In our facts finding mission, we called his media aide, Austin
Oniyorkor who sent this press release to us: it reads thus: The National Drug
Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) this morning (Saturday,23rd May, 2015) at about 4:30amsurrounded the Lekki Phase 1, Lagos residence of Prince Buruji
Kashamu to allegedly effect his arrest following a purported extradition
request from the US.
This latest onslaught is a confirmation of the alleged plot to
illegally abduct him in spite of the pending suit against this illegality. As a
matter of fact, the court has ordered parties in the matter including the NDLEA
to maintain status quo until judgment is delivered on Wednesday 27th May 2015.
We have confirmed that they do not have a warrant of arrest,
just as the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister
of Justice has said that it did not give any order to carry out this
illegality. We have confirmed that this illegality is being designed and
executed by Chief Bode George whose wife is the Director General of the NDLEA,
all in a bid to score cheap political points.
We urge all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on NDLEA, Chief
George and his wife to toe the path of the rule of law and follow due process.
Nigeria is not a Banana republic! The United States (US) being the bastion of
democracy, the rule of law and due process should not lend itself to this kind
of illegality.
