It was a sad outing for the organizers of the Miss Tourism beauty contest as one of the girls-next-door eyeing the crown for this year’s edition billed to hold on the 9th of July in Lagos is said to have died.
The deceased,
a 20 year old contestant whose name was given as Maureen Onu, we gathered died
after a brief illness as
preparations for the pageant were in
top gear.
According to
a statement from the event’s organizers, Maureen Onu, a finalist for this year’s
Miss Tourism Nigeria billed to hold on the 9th of July in Lagos passed away after a brief
illness in the early hours of last Thursday. May her soul rest in peace.
The release
stated further that, ‘’ the organizers of the Miss Tourism Nigeria pageant
announces the death of one of their contestants, Maureen Onu who was one of the
finalists representing Ebonyi State. Maureen Onu reportedly died in the early
hours of Thursday. This disclosure was made known by the CEO of the organization,
Mr. Santiago Roberts at the weekend.
In the statement,
Roberts said, “The brand lost a true and great gem. “Maureen was always prompt
to carry out instructions/tasks giving and willing to learn; she was looking
forward to representing her state with pride during this year’s finals and with
the hopes of becoming the first ever national tourism queen from Ebonyi
State.“The organization promises to redesign the content and production of the
event to honour the lost contestant,” the statement added.
