There`s a serious reputation and integrity controversy
rocking the highest judicial body in Lagos State and the matter is so weighty
to the extent that accusing finger is being pointed at the sitting Chief
Justice of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Phillips who`s being alleged of being
a fraud by his predecessor, the immediate past Chief Justice of Lagos, Justice
Inumidun Akande.
According to dependable sources at the office of the Lagos
State Governor, Mr. Governor is said to be so surprised and embarrassed that he
had to set up a panel of enquiry to investigate the fraud.
Tracing the genesis of the shameful act, bubble burst when
the immediate past Chief Justice, Inumidun Akande got the wind of the
ridiculous amount the new Judge, Ayotunde Phillips quoted to have spent to
renovate the official residence on 4 Thompson Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos shortly
after she left the oval office.
Our source confided in us that, the immediate past Chief
Judge of Lagos had claimed to have renovated the official residence with N139m
( One Hundred and Thirty Nine Million Naira) in 2011 and in 2013, the new
Judge, Ayotunde Phillips, we gathered quoted N369m (Three Hundred and Sixty
Nine Million Naira only), a development that pitched the two honourable
justices against each other.
The matter is being kept under wrap at the top in Lagos but
that notwithstanding, Mr. Governor has set up a panel headed by the honourable
Commissioner for Works, Dr. Obafemi
Hamzat to secretly look into the matter and come up with his findings.
However, in our facts finding mission, we spoke to the
honourable Commissioner, Dr. Hamzat who denied anything of such, “HELLO Tunde
thanks for getting in touch but I can assure you there`s nothing of such”, he
told us but efforts to speak to both Justices were abortive as we gathered
they`re in England observing a little rest due to the fact that courts are on
vacation.
