Recession: Investors Lose N281bn In Less Than 9 Months

Investors in the nation’s stock market have lost about N281 billion of their investment value in the past eight months as the ongoing economic recession continues to hit the financial market. This is just as stockbrokers continued to lament over difficult operating environment which has placed their businesses in difficulties.
Vanguard findings showed that the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE market capitalisation, which represents the value of total investment in the stock market by investors, dropped by N281 billion or 2.9 per cent from N9.850 trillion it opened in the first trading day of January this year to close at N9.569 trillion last week Friday.
Another stock market gauge, the NSE All share index dropped by 2.7 per cent or 783.77 points from 28, 642.25 points it opened in January to close last week at 27,599.03 points.
Meanwhile, stockbrokers have said that the on-going economic recession continues to affect the financial market with dire consequences on the income streams of the capital market operators and has given them concern for their continued existence.

Graduate Impersonates Bishop Kukah, Defrauds Oyedepo, Dantata, Others

A graduate of Political Science, Jehu Kwasu, has narrated how he impersonated the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah and defrauded prominent Nigerians of millions of naira.

Kwasu said his victims included Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide, who he claimed gave him N500,000; the Chairman, Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko, N1m; Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, N500,000; businessman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, N2m.

He allegedly collected the sums for Internally Displaced Persons.

He said, “I collected N500,000 from Otudeko, CEO, Honeywell: From Admiral Kanu, I got N500,000. I also got N500,000 from Bishop Oyedepo and N2m from Dantata. I also got money from Gen. Wushishi and others.

Controversial South African televangelist, Paseka Motsoeneng popularly known as Prophet Mboro of Incredible Happenings Ministries has made the headlines again for odious reasons.

President Buhari Warns Biafran Agitators, "It Can Never Be"

President Buhari yesterday asked agitators of Biafra to forget the plan. Speaking with some NYSC members, particularly those from the south East, who paid him a visit at his home in Daura, Katsina state yesterday, President Buhari said

“Tell your colleagues who want Biafra to forget about it. As a military commander, I walked from Degem, a border town between the north and the east, to the border between Cameroons and Nigeria.
